Dr. Mark S. Balderston
After graduating from Johnson County Community College and attending Phillips University, Dr. Mark Balderston graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1978 and has practiced in Shawnee since that time.
Dr. Balderston served the Kansas Chiropractic Association as District Director, District President and District Vice-president. He has served as Chairman of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts Impaired Physician Program for chiropractic since 1998 and Chairman of the Kansas Athletic Commission since 2006.
In 2002, Dr. Balderston was named Kansas "Doctor of the Year" by the Kansas Chiropractic Association and was also inducted into the Johnson County Community College Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2006, he was elected a "Fellow" of the International College of Chiropractors.
In addition to serving on the medical staff of Shawnee Mission North and Shawnee Mission Northwest high schools and Johnson County Community College, Dr. Balderston has served as head softball coach for Shawnee Mission Northwest High School since 2002 and won Kansas 6-A state championships in both 2002 and 2003.
Dr. Calvin W. Gabel
Dr. Gabel is originally from Western Kansas and is a proud to be a provider at Balderston Chiropractic, in Shawnee. Dr. Gabel received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biology from the University of Kansas. He then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, IA receiving his Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC) graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is board certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and has completed additional training in soft tissue treatment, Graston Technique, pediatric care, upper cervical care, and functional assessment and treatment of upper extremity, lower extremity, and gait abnormalities. Dr. Gabel has an additional interest in health and wellness, through a balance of lifestyle modifications for families and individuals, with a focus on the understanding that health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO, 2006).” Dr. Gabel enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, including his 18 month old son. He enjoys getting outdoors for various forms of exercise, immersing himself in the local culture, and volunteering at his church.
