Common Auto Accident Injuries
A low-speed collision/car accident is a collision that takes places at speeds below ten miles per hour. Often there is little, or no visible property damage done to the bumpers of either vehicle. However, minimal or nonexistent damage to the vehicles involved does not mean that you haven’t sustained a physical injury.
Rear-end accidents are the most common low-speed collision. At low speeds, particularly where the impacting vehicle is already at a stop, the forces involved transfer to your unrestrained body parts within the vehicle. Pain from a low-speed injury may be negligible or unnoticeable in the immediate wake of the accident. It does not surface until well after the collision.
At Balderston Chiropractic we are well versed in treating any injuries that you might sustain as a result of an auto accident. Dr. Mark Balderston is highly skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of auto accident injuries. A custom treatment plan will be developed for your specific injuries. Below are some of the common auto accident injuries Dr. Mark Balderston diagnoses and treats on a daily basis.

Back Pain
Back injuries are a highly common result of car accidents because of the impact involved in the collision. Back sprains or strains, disc and nerve injuries and even fractures are seen frequently in auto accident injury evaluations. Even if you feel fine immediately following or a few days after the accident, it is highly important that you seek a professional medical evaluation in order to diagnose soft tissue injuries that may not be painful right away.
Neck Pain
Another common auto accident ailment is neck injury, commonly referred to as whiplash. Symptoms of whiplash you may have experienced include aches and pains, decreased range of motion and soreness. It also includes muscle tightness in the neck and increased pain when turning the head. Whiplash may also cause you headaches that form at the base of the skull and dizziness. It also includes numb fingertips, tenderness in the upper back, shoulder pain, fatigue and difficulty swallowing. Your symptoms may linger for weeks or months depending on the severity of the strain. Disc and nerve injuries are also very common in auto accidents and tend to require longer term treatment options in order to achieve neck pain relief.
Headaches or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Closed head injuries sustained by auto accident trauma is also something that is not to be overlooked. Some car accident injury patients deal with frequent or recurring headaches, jaw or facial pain, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea or even vomiting as a result of their accident.
Shoulder, Arm, Leg or Knee (Extremity) Injuries
We frequently see extremity related auto accident injuries which are usually a result of those body parts impacting an area inside of the vehicle. These injuries usually involve bruising, sprains or even fractures/broken bones. These types of injuries require careful diagnosis and treatment to ensure proper healing.

A variety of possible treatments that each patient might experience are listed below.
Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive alternative medicine options available for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain of the arms or legs, headaches, and other neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Auto accident patients suffering from neck pain, back pain and headaches often benefit from the natural healing offered by chiropractic medicine. Our staff will work with you to determine if chiropractic treatment is the proper course of action for addressing your auto accident injuries.
Therapeutic Modalities
Various therapeutic modalities can be an effective way of treating a wide range of auto accident injuries and pain caused by collision-related trauma. The modalities utilized during treatments can vary but could include electrical muscle stimulation, heat/cold therapy, intersegmental traction, soft tissue manipulation as well as a variety of stretching and exercises programs.
Rehabilitative Exercise Therapy
Utilizing a personalized exercise program throughout your treatment is a great way to further strengthen the injured area to decrease pain and avoid future exacerbations. This is an essential part of a patient's treatment plan to improve function and get the patient back to their normal daily activities faster.
Spinal Decompression
Non-surgical spinal decompression can be an effective method for the treatment of back pain caused by disc conditions as a result of an auto accident. Decompression helps to reduce pressure on the vertebral joints and promote self healing through relief of chronic back and neck pain. Learn more
